How can someone tell if a student has requested that directory information not be
disclosed?
The student's request to restrict directory information is reflected in the Student
Information System (SIS). Once the student's record has been flagged in SIS, it will be
displayed with the message: "Student has requested that no information be released."
Where can I get a copy of the law?
A full text of the law is available here.
Why can't parents get their children’s grades or schedules if they’re paying the
bills?
FERPA does not permit USC to release non-directory information without the signed consent of
the child.
How can parents pay their children’s accounts if you can't even tell me how much the students owe?
Students can provide parents access to receive and inspect tuition and fee billing statements through OASIS for Guests or through USC ePay for Guests. Additional instructions for students to set up parent accounts are available.
Can a student have directory information released to just his or her parents?
No, a student does not have the right to request non-disclosure to a particular person or
group of persons.
